Dr Orazio Trevisan has been a Paediatric Chiropractor  in Brookvale at Contemporary Healthcare for almost 30 years.

He is a fully qualified Chiropractor having completed a Science degree through the University of NSW followed by a Masters Degree in Chiropractic through Macquarie University.

He is one of only a handful of Chiropractors to have specialty training in Paediatrics, having completed a post graduate Masters degree in Science (Chiropractic Paediatrics) through the University of Wales in 2010.

He also has post graduate qualifications in sports injury management, having completed a post graduate Diploma in Chiropractic Sports Science through Macquarie University.

Dr Orazio has a wealth of experience in treating and managing a variety of Paediatric conditions at his Brookvale practice.   These include;

  • Sports injury management
  • Scoliosis management
  • Assessment and management of spinal injuries
  • Assessment and management of upper limb injuries to the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand
  • Assessment and management of lower limb injuries to the hip, knee, ankle and foot
  • Management of Deformational Plagiocephaly (flat spots on the head) in babies
  • Growing pains
  • Asthma
  • Improving posture
  • Improving breathing
  • Improving gut health

At Contemporary Healthcare Brookvale , we look at the patient through a holistic lens and our unique form of Chiropractic encompasses our 5 pillar approach to health. Dr Orazio Trevisan will look at 5 key areas which may be relevant to a child’s presenting problem. These are;

  1. Structural health – This encompasses looking at the spine, upper and lower limb function along with key areas such as balance and movement integration.
  2. Mental health – We often don’t think about how our mental health encompasses our physical well being. Unresolved stress has a huge impact on things such as posture as well as how our nervous system functions.
  3. Diet – There is an increasing awareness on how a good diet can be anti-inflammatory and a highly processed diet can be inflammatory. A basic dietary assessment will be done to assess your child’s diet as well as looking at potential deficiencies in key nutrients.
  4. Sleep – Poor sleep patterns can play a major role in chronic issues. Dr Orazio has been helping people improve their sleep for almost 30 years.
  5. Breath – How we breathe plays a major role on the health of many organs around the body. It also has huge implications on spinal function and our posture. This is an important area and will be assessed when a child comes into the practice.

The 3 most effective treatment of choices which set Dr Orazio apart from other clinicians and other practices are;

Dr Orazio also has extensive overseas training in all of these techniques and treatment modalities. This will ensure your child is back to school, sport and enjoying life in the shortest time possible.

At Contemporary Healthcare Brookvale a comprehensive history and examination will be done. There may be a need for further testing which may include x-rays, ultrasounds, MRI’s and food intolerance tests. If x-rays are needed, they are usually bulk billed at a number of radiology practices located nearby. Other tests incur an out of pocket expense.

Once a diagnosis has been established, your child’s information is put together to form a management plan on the best way to treat and manage their condition. Their management plan will look at how to mange their symptoms, help to prevent injury in the future and optimise their quality of life.

A Chiropractor in Brookvale at Contemporary Healthcare Northern Beaches in Sydney has been established for almost 30 years. At Contemporary Healthcare Brookvale we use all of the most modern forms of Chiropractic therapy available to ensure we get the best result possible for you. These include manual adjustments, mobilisations, activator technique, drop piece technique, shockwave therapy, applied kinesiology, NET, active release technique and instrument assisted soft tissue mobilisation.

Chiropractic is a profession concerned with the diagnosis, management and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system. This includes the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and general health. Chiropractic prides itself on the utilisation of natural interventions to avoid the use of medication and surgery where possible.

At Contemporary Healthcare Brookvale, our unique form of Chiropractic encompasses our 5 pillar approach to health. These are:

  1. Move better
    • Dr Orazio Trevisan will assess your spine, upper and lower limbs, balance and movement patterns. Your body cannot function normally without proper movement.
  2. Think better
    • Our mental health plays a huge part in how our body functions. Chronic stress affects both our posture and how our nervous system functions. Stress will often lead to long term activation of our ‘fight or flight’ response, along with a decrease in function in our ability to rest, digest, repair and reproduce.
  3. Eat better
    • Have you ever thought about how your diet affects how you feel. An anti-inflammatory diet can be crucial in getting you better. An inflammatory diet that has a lot of processed foods may be part of the problem. Dr Orazio Trevisan will look at your diet and address the need for any changes. Dietary supplements may also help if your body is lacking in certain nutrients.
  4. Sleep better
    • Some of us sleep very well but a large percentage of people don’t sleep well. We don’t often think about how our sleep affects our ability to recover from injury and disease. Dr Orazio Trevisan will look at your sleep patterns and may suggest ways to improve your sleep. It is also important to understand how a poor sleep pattern may be impacting your health and recovery.
  5. Breathe better
    • Breathing forms an integral part of our bodily functions and keeps us alive. When we breathe properly it provides many positive effects with regards to our health. Poor breathing causes many acute and chronic health issues including spinal pain and poor oxygenation levels throughout our body. Dr Orazio Trevisan has been teaching proper breathing techniques for over 20 years and this forms an important part of any treatment program.

Once a diagnosis has been established, your information is put together to form a management plan on the best way to treat and manage your condition.

Your management plan will look at how to mange your symptoms, help to prevent injury in the future and optimise your quality of life.

Shockwave Therapy in Brookvale at Contemporary Healthcare Northern Beaches Sydney

Shockwave Therapy in Brookvale at Contemporary Healthcare Northern Beaches Sydney is a modern and highly effective treatment method that has been safely and effectively used  for over 20 years.

This type of technology is based on lithotripsy, which is used in a hospital setting to break up kidney stones and gallstones.

This technology is now being used to treat a wide variety of conditions such as muscle, tendon and ligament injuries.

How do shock waves work?

The Shockwave machine generates a high energy percussion sound wave or physical shock. There is no electrical shock as seen in other types of equipment such as interferential therapy. The sound wave generated penetrates deep into the affected tissue and causes the following effects;

  • Shockwave treatment accelerates the healing process dramatically by breaking up scar tissue and/or calcification, locally increasing metabolic activity and increasing blood circulation.
  • Dysfunctional tissue is remodelled forming normal stronger healthy tissue.
  • Damaged tissue regenerates and heals at a dramatically enhanced rate.
  • Pain transmission is inhibited via the inhibition of nociceptors (pain receptors) neurologically.

What Does Shock Wave Therapy Treat?

  • Muscle strains
  • Tendonitis
  • Calcification
  • Back pain
  • Chronic pain
  • Elbow Pain: tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, tendonitis, repetitive strain injuries
  • Shoulder Pain: “frozen shoulder”, tendonitis such as rotator cuff or biceps, calcific tendinitis.
  • Knee Pain: Osteoarthritis, torn meniscus, patellar tendinopathy (jumpers knee), shin splints, iliotibial tract problems.
  • Ankle and Foot Pain: Heel spur, plantar fasciitis, morton’s neuroma, chronic instability of the ankle /foot
  • Hip pain: trochanteric bursitis
  • Myofascial pain—Trigger points
  • Chronic ligament tear/sprains
  • Tendonitis of the hand/thumb
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • TMJ Disorders (Jaw Problems)
  • Elimination of scar tissue which has formed either through injury or after surgery.

What Are The Benefits Of Shockwave Therapy?

  • Fast relief from pain. This therapy stimulates the body’s own healing processes and patients will normally feel an immediate reduction in pain and an improved range of motion.
  • Generally, only 4-12 sessions are needed. This is dependant on the type of injury and its chronicity.
  • High level of safety.
  • It is highly effective for chronic pain.
  • The treatment is non-invasive and no anesthetic is required.
  • Shockwave therapy is tolerated very well by most patients.
  • Generally, the patient will not need medication due to the fast pain relief provided by the shockwave therapy.
  • This type of treatment is recognised as leading-edge technology overseas.
  • Shockwave treatment is proven by many independent studies and has proven to be effective for specific indications with success rates of between 80-90%. Dr Orazio Trevisan normally combines Shockwave treatment with other treatment modalities such as Instrument assisted soft tissue mobilisation. This brings the success rate for most conditions to almost 100% at his Brookvale practice.
  • Treatment times are short with only 5-10 minutes needed per session. This is important in our busy daily lives, where most people are time poor.
  • Shockwave therapy is very successful for injuries and conditions that have not responded to other forms of therapy.

Contemporary Healthcare Brookvale on the Northern Beaches in Sydney was one of the first clinics to make this technology available in Australia. We have safely and effectively been using shockwave therapy for over 20 years, and thus have a wealth of experience and knowledge in all aspects of Shockwave Therapy and its application in a clinical setting.

Contemporary Healthcare is a multidisciplinary practice that incorporates Chiropractic, Shockwave Therapy, Active Release technique (ART) and Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation (IASTM). It is located in Brookvale on the Northern Beaches of Sydney.

If you have any questions regarding Shockwave Therapy or if you want to make an appointment, please call the Brookvale practice on 9971 4408.

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation (IASTM) in Brookvale at Contemporary Healthcare Northern Beaches Sydney

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue mobilisation in Brookvale at Contemporary Healthcare Northern Beaches Sydney is a relatively new form of treatment for myofascial restriction in Australia. Instead of using a traditional hands on approach using cross friction, IASTM is applied using specially designed instruments to provide a mobilising effect to soft tissue structures such as scar tissue and myofascial adhesions. It works on the superficial and deep fascial layers, breaking up scar tissue, adhesions, improving tissue mobility and can improve blood flow and neurological function in the area.

The net effect is a decrease in pain, improved range of motion and improved function. The use of the instrument provides a mechanical advantage for the clinician by allowing deeper penetration and more specific treatment to the patients area of lesion.

How does IASTM help?

The IASTM treatment is said to stimulate connective tissue remodelling through resorption of excessive fibrosis, along with inducing repair and regeneration of collagen secondary to fibroblast recruitment. A fibroblast is a type of cell that is responsible for making the extracellular matrix and collagen. Together, this extracellular matrix and collagen form the structural framework of tissues in humans and plays an important role in tissue repair. Fibroblasts are the main connective tissue cells present in the body. Therefore stimulating fibroblast cells, will result in the release and breakdown of scar tissue, adhesions, and fascial restrictions. These benefits have been demonstrated in many clinical studies.

The concept of myofascial lines.

Fascial tissues bind us together as human beings helping to give us structural integrity. Fascial tissue is said to be organised into 12 myofascial lines. These myofascial lines are tracks of myofascial tissue that distribute strain, facilitate movement, and provide stability throughout the structures of the body. There are myofascial line at the front, side, back and across the body. These can be deep or superficial.

These myofascial lines are very important clinically because when one part of the system is dysfunctional it can result in clinical pain in a totally different area.  For example in the myofascial line along the back part of the body, myofascial adhesions or scar tissue in the bottom of the foot may result in pain along any part of the involved myofascial line, in this case the back and neck.

When using IASTM, the doctor treats not only the local area of complaint, but also looks at other areas that are directly linked to this area through these myofascial lines. This results in less pain, increase movement and restoration of normal functional movement patterns to help prevent further injury. This also means that you can do the things that you love to do, such as play with the children, sit and read your favourite book, play golf, run or go to the gym better.

IASTM has been shown to be very effective in treating:

  • Achilles tendonitis
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Coccydynia (pain in the tailbone)
  • Heel spurs/plantar fasciitis
  • Iliotibial band syndrome
  • Lateral epicondylitis/osis (tennis elbow)
  • Medial epicondylitis/osis (golfers elbow)
  • Piriformis syndrome
  • Rotator cuff syndrome
  • Tension headaches
  • Trigger finger
  • Tendon injuries
  • Muscle injuries
  • Chronic soft tissue injuries
  • Sprains and strains
  • Chronic joint swelling associated with soft tissue injuries
  • Post surgical scarring
  • Traumatic scarring
  • Pain and restriction associated with bunions
  • Pain and restriction associated with arthritis and other degenerative conditions

Contemporary Healthcare Brookvale is a multidisciplinary practice that incorporates Chiropractic, Shockwave TherapyActive Release Technique (ART), Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation (IASTM). It is located in Brookvale on the Northern Beaches of Sydney.

If you have any questions regarding IASTM or if you want to make an appointment, please call the Brookvale practice on 9971 4408.

Active Release Technique (ART) in Brookvale at Contemporary Healthcare Northern Beaches

Active Release Technique in Brookvale at Contemporary Healthcare Northern Beaches is a hands on treatment in which muscle, ligament, fascia, tendon, nerve, or joint capsule is held under tension in a shortened position, while the involved structure (spine, upper limb or lower limb) is lengthened through a full, comfortable active range of active motion while maintaining tension throughout the movement. Tension is maintained on the underlying tissue and not the skin.

ART is unique when compared to other soft tissue techniques by the use of active movement of the limb, or spine under tension. Active release is also extremely specific with its contacts and it targets injured tissue in a very precise manner. Instead of treating a general area, an Active Release Technique Doctor uses their hands to feel damaged tissue in muscle, fascia, tendons, ligaments or nerves.

Upon touch damaged areas feel tense and have an irregular texture compared to normal skin. This will then effect the movement and function that a patient is able to perform with that part of the body.

What Conditions can ART are be used to Treat?

  • lower back pain
  • chronic neck pain
  • tension headaches
  • shoulder strains, including frozen shoulder and rotator cuff problems
  • carpal tunnel syndrome
  • shin splints and compartment syndromes
  • sciatic nerve pain
  • plantar fasciitis
  • bursitis
  • tennis elbow
  • golfers elbow
  • hamstring strains
  • hip flexor issues
  • knee pain
  • performance enhancement

How does Active Release Technique work?

ART works by breaking up adhesions within (intra) and between (inter) layers of connective tissue. Adhesions are dense collections of scar tissue that form when muscles and connective tissues are injured. When the scar tissue binds between your muscles, it limits flexibility, causing pain and stiffness in muscles and joints. Sometimes adhesions can also entrap nerves. The manipulation of the soft tissues through ART breaks up the adhesions so your muscles, joints, and nerves can move freely again.

During an ART session at our Brookvale practice, your Doctor will feel the area and identify the location of the scar tissue. They will then use the technique to isolate and target the area, manipulating it to break up the scar tissue and restore proper blood flow so the area can heal.

Signs that you may have Scar Tissue

The following are signs that you may have an accumulation of scar tissue that may benefit from ART:

  • stiffness in your neck, elbow, hands, knees, or back
  • increased pain when exercising
  • sharp pain in the bottom of your foot near the heel
  • pain, numbness, and tingling in your fingers
  • reduced flexibility and limited range of motion
  • decreased strength
  • inflamed joints
  • tingling, numbness, or weakness

Who Can Benefit from Active Release Technique?

ART can be used on every person, regardless of your age or your current state of health. Active Release Technique can address repetitive injuries, adhesions, tissue contracture, tissue hypoxia, and joint dysfunction.

How Does ART Help?

Active Release Technique promotes faster recovery and restoration of normal tissue function, and can help prevent injuries.

It will allow athletes to train better and more consistently but will also assist the average person (office worker, tradies, older person), by keeping them injury free when ART is used as a preventative treatment.

Scar tissue and adhesions generally go unnoticed by most people until it results in an injury. Damaged tissue may be totally asymptomatic but some subtle signs include the tightening and shortening of muscles  which may present as a stiffer golf swing or struggle to reach your seatbelt in the car.  A loss of mobility, a restricted range of motion, poor biomechanics, overcompensation in other body parts, and loss of strength can all be identified and corrected with ART. Often a patient will not know scar tissue is building up until it is too late. Most of the time there will be no obvious trauma, just over-use from everyday life.

Dr Orazio Trevisan has been using ART in his Brookvale practice for over 20 years and has seen some amazing results in that time. It has helped many thousands of people with chronic conditions in which all other forms of therapy had failed. ART is often used in conjunction with other forms of therapy such as Shockwave therapy and IASTM. When these therapies are combined the results are often life changing for many people. You have nothing to lose, book in for an appointment and see what this wonderful technique can do for you.

Contemporary Healthcare is a multidisciplinary practice that incorporates Chiropractic, Shockwave Therapy (ESWT), Instrument Assisted Soft tissue Mobilisation (IASTM) and Active Release Technique (ART). It is located in Brookvale on the Northern Beaches of Sydney.

If you have any questions regarding Active Release Technique or if you want to make an appointment, please call the Brookvale practice on 9971 4408.

Stress Management in Brookvale at Contemporary Healthcare Northern Beaches Sydney

Stress Management in Brookvale at Contemporary Healthcare Northern Beaches Sydney forms an important part of treatment in many different conditions that we see in the practice. Chronic stress affects many aspects of our health including our posture, nervous system function, gut and many other organs in the body.

What is Stress?

Stress is a normal part of life and it helps us to get though difficult times, but it can also make us very sick. How well we deal with stress has a huge impact on our health and our sense of wellbeing. In our ancestral days, our stress response allowed us to get away from predators and survive. It was a short lived response that would switch off once we were out of danger.

Why in our modern day society has stress become a major problem?

Stress has become a problem in modern society because of a constant barrage of challenges placed on our minds and bodies on a daily basis. These challenges are often relentless from the time we wake up in the morning until the time we go to bed. Daily stresses can be divided into chemical, emotional or physical.

Chemical stress can come from:

  • Toxins (from both the external environment and from our internal chemistry)
  • Moulds
  • Bacteria
  • Viruses
  • Inflammatory foods
  • Poor nutrition
  • Electromagnetic fields from the environment around us. Examples include wi-fi networks and emissions from mobile phones

Emotional stress can come from:

  • Financial pressure,
  • Family issues
  • Work
  • School
  • Previous, often traumatic experiences that have happened in our lives.

Physical stress can come from:

  • Injury (acute or chronic)
  • Trauma
  • Poor posture.

What parts of our body are affected by Stress?

Stress affects a part of our central nervous system called the Autonomic nervous system. This is the automatic part of our nervous system consisting of 2 parts, the Sympathetic and Parasympathetic systems.

Chronic stress leads to the Sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight) being left on for long periods of time . This then affects many parts of our body including; parts of the brain, postural muscles, breathing, the gut, the adrenal glands, the thyroid, oestrogen levels, the gall bladder and the immune system.

Chronic stress also leads to suppression (switching off) of the Parasympathetic nervous system. This system is involved with rest, digestion, repair and reproduction.

What are some of the symptoms of Chronic Stress?

  • Sensitivity to light leading to poor sleep and headaches
  • Sensitivity to noise
  • Increased muscle tone (tight muscles), especially around the shoulders, neck, jaw and calf muscles. These then lead to postural changes
  • Digestion is suppressed leading to gut inflammation and symptoms of leaky gut. Over time this can lead to food sensitivities or allergies
  • Signs of Adrenal fatigue. These include feeling constantly tired, difficulty getting out of bed, salt or sugar cravings, mood changes, low sex drive, slower recovery from injury or illness and feeling overwhelmed
  • Signs of excess oestrogen. these include weight gain, inability to fall pregnant, heavy painful periods, sore breasts, low sex drive, polycystic ovarian syndrome, fibroids in the uterus and a menstrual cycle characterised by no ovulation
  • Signs of an under-active Thyroid such as sensitivity to cold, fatigue, weight gain, dry skin, muscle aches, stiffness/swelling/painful joints, thinning hair, impaired memory

How an Integrative Chiropractor can help

As an integrative Chiropractor there are many tools that can be used to address both symptoms and causes of the stress.

These include;

  • NET (Neuro-emotional Technique)
  • Finding and removing inflammatory foods from the diet
  • Prescribing supplements such as magnesium, adrenal herbs, gut healing herbs, natural anti-inflammatories.
  • Spinal adjustments including treatment around the face, jaw and neck
  • Improving posture
  • Treatment of any physical injuries
  • Exercises
  • Stress management and lifestyle advice
  • Assessment and improvement of breathing
  • Assessment and improvement of sleep

Dr Orazio Trevisan has helped many thousands of patients in his Brookvale practice over the last 30 years with chronic stress. There have been some truly life changing transformations seen in his patients in that time.
